MRI in the assessment of cerebral injury and cerebroprotective effects of renal denervation in resistant hypertension

The purpose of this single-centre, prospective, comparative study was to evaluate the pattern and severity brain structural changes in patients with resistant hypertension based on MRI assessments their one year after renal denervation. Material Methods. comprised 53 (RH), aged 52.1 ± 9.1 years, who underwent denervation (RDN) following Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Patients office blood pressure measurements, 24-hour monitoring (BPM), scanning. Using MRI, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system presence periventricular white matter lesion focal were evaluated. Results. Initially, RH had a high incidence alterations: 43 (81%) fine lesions, enlarged CSF spaces, 48 (90%) lesions. After denervation, significant hypotensive effect noted. According number without spaces did not change significantly: 15 (25%) initially, 12 (20%) later (χ 2 = 0.63, р 0.43 и χ 0.72, 0.40). significantly RDN; however, lesions decreased 21 (81% 60%, p 0.02).
